*Until the end of March 2023, we are offering free training to businesses and organisations within Scotland as part of Inspiring Scotland’s Increasing Understanding of Autism campaign.
We’ve had the absolute delight of working with the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration, Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI), Inverclyde Carers Centre, and other organisations to raise autism acceptance across communities in Scotland.
We offer bespoke training workshops to audiences from all ages and backgrounds but always do our best to highlight specific strategies and scenarios that will be relevant to the attendees.
We believe it’s important that everyone has an opportunity to gain a more in depth understanding of autism, because autism friendly communities are ultimately people friendly communities. There’s no strategy that is exclusive to people with autism, and you may find that some strategies we suggest can help non-autistic individuals, and maybe yourself!
Length: 3 hours
Presentations cover key autism topics (except for core theories) and offer a less formal approach to autism training, but nevertheless provides an in-depth, engaging, emotional and interactive approach to autism and how it affects people. These sessions can be flexible to suit time restraints and are suitable for all audiences and age groups.
Length: 45 min - 2.5 hours
Presentations can also be supplemented with custom scenes based on our play ‘In Our World: A Day on the Spectrum’.
Length: Varies
Our award-winning play, ‘In Our World: A Day on the Spectrum’ explores navigating daily life through the lens of people with autism across the spectrum. Each sketch explores themes including: bullying, daily routines, using public transport, school, work, sensory issues, criminal justice and more!
Like all our other training, where we mention specific challenges for autistic individuals, we provide strategies that can be used to improve good autism practice. At the end of every performance, we allow members of the audience to ask questions about the performance as well as general questions about autism (and we always say - no question is a daft one!)
We’ve performed scenes of our play at our local theatre (on smaller and bigger stages!), for schools, employers, civil servants, police officers and even the First Minister and the Cabinet in 2017. We’ve had fantastic opportunity after fantastic opportunity, and it could not be done without the incredible collaboration from members of the wider community.
Our play is suitable for all audiences.
If you would like to see our play (or a selected number of scenes), we have some options available below!
Whether it’s a theatre, a community centre, school or even an office space - we can perform!
Length: 1.5-2 hours
A full performance of up to eleven core scenes from our play that depict different parts of daily life for people across the spectrum. Our play may include the following themes: bullying, sensory processing difficulties in work and other settings, public transport, daily routines, employment, 5 criminal justice and more!
Length: 15-45 minutes
A selection of up to 3 scenes from ‘In Our World: A Day on the Spectrum’, selected to be relevant to your attendees. We tend to perform these scenes with a condensed version of our interactive training to provide our audience with additional information about autism.
These short drama performances are especially suitable for performances in schools.
If you’re looking for a scene that is specific to your organisation, a custom scene may be perfect for you! We work with you to create a custom scenario that navigates a potential challenge and strategies for an autistic individual that is accurate to your place of work, that will be performed for your team.
If you are interested in arranging us to come along to your business or organisation to deliver training, or have any questions for us, please contact us at admin@autismatlas.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
